The pious practice of yoga in the pious city of Rishikesh is something more than your expectations.
Yoga is considered a divine practice because Lord Shiva propagate this knowledge
through Sapt Rishis (The First Seven Sages). This is the reason that Shiva is also
known as "Adiyogi".
Firstly, Lord Shiva gave the teaching of yoga to Devi Parvati. The second part of the teaching was
given to Sapt Rishis by Lord Shiva. He further ordered the sages to spread the knowledge to different
parts of the world. It is believed that the teachings of Sapt Rishi were done near Kanti Sarovar
in Kedarnath. Kedarnath is a spiritual place in Uttarakhand with a temple of
Lord Shiva.
Rishikesh is a small city in Uttarakhand, located on the banks of the River Ganges.
The city is surrounded by the majestic Garhwal Himalayas and lush greenery. While walking to the city,
you will gain positive energy listening to the spiritual sound of temple bells, mantras, bhajans, aarti,
and shloka.
Following mythological beliefs, Sage Vashishta with his wife, Arundhati visited Rishikesh to do
penance. He wanted to overcome the grief of the death of his son. The place where he did penance is now
known as "Vashishta Cave".
“Tapovan" is another place in Rishikesh having a strong mythological belief. It is
believed that Lakshmana (brother of Lord Rama) did penance here.
"Tapovan" is a combination of two words, "Tapa" means "Penance" or "Austerity" and "Van" means
"Forest", thus forming the meaning of "Tapovan" as the "forest of austerities or spiritual practice".
The peaceful place of Tapovan offers such an environment that you naturally fall in love with yoga,
meditation, and spirituality.
